Item CA12190/916   Side Table

This elm wood table exemplifies the subtlety of Chinese classical furniture.  The negative space is as important as the positive space. The apron’s lobed contours with central cusp sweep outwards and down the leg with only the carved detail of an inverted ruyi slightly detouring the flow as it ends in a subtle horsehoof foot.  Of waisted construction, this table was once covered with elegant lacquer.  Circa 1700, Shanxi Region, China.
Size: 40.5 x 18.5 x 33.25 high.
