Item CX11070/631 Side Table

This side table of locust wood still retains its original untouched lacquer finish, which is in quite good condition. Transparent lacquer was used on the top to allow the wood grain to show, whereas on the apron and legs a thick lacquer was applied. The leg has a double mitered bridal joint with the tenons exposed in the top. The graceful simple line of the apron curves down into the legs which end in an inverted ruyi shape. The edges of the legs and the apron are finely beaded. Incense stick beading raised in relief runs along the center of each leg.  18th Century, Shanxi province, China. Size: 43 x 25 x 34 high.
