Item CA24/837 Meditation Platform

Meditation platforms are rare. Cut down tables and large stools are often mistaken for them. This platform in the classical Ming style has only been cleaned and hand rubbed. The simple apron and spandrels are outlined with a delicate carved beading. The round, splayed legs are joined by four stretchers. Some of the original lacquer remains on the legs and apron. As the natural patina of this piece is so spectacular, we recommend no further finishing or restoration. Chinese elm wood (yumu); Northern China; Last Half 18th century; Size: 31 x 31 x 22.
