The deep relief carving on the front of this table is extraordinary. The dimensionality gives the table a voluptuous quality.  The carved overlapping frontal piece that frames the coffer and drawer is a non-functional form based on Greek classical motifs.   Elmwood, 18th  Century, Shanxi province, China.
