Item BT68/830 Chinese Ming Style Stool SOLD
This stool is another "ANTIQUE IN THE RAW" from our collection. There is a similar stool/bench in the Wang Shixiang book "Connoisseurship of Chinese Furniture," plate A44, pg 33, 1990 and "CLASSIC CHINESE FURNITURE,"plate 33, pg 73, 1991. The size of our stool is 18 x 5 x 14 HIGH. The wood is fruitwood--perhaps pearwood. The top is of burl wood. One stretcher has been replaced and I have tipped one foot. I used a small piece of rosewood to make the repair which seemed to match just fine. This example is 18th century. While this simple stool my not be considered by most to be indicative of a "Period" antique, it is. The date on this little jewel is 1800, plus or minus. Originally the stool was covered in lacquer. However, the lacquer has long since worn off. The stool has not been stripped, sanded, or scraped. As they used to say in Hong Kong,"a true Antique in the Raw".
