Item A03-19/583 Chinese Laquer Box SOLD

A small Chinese Lacquer "Candy" box. The size is 6 in x 6 in x 3-1/2 in high. Late 18th-early 19th century. The materials are wood, lacquer and rattan. Sometimes these boxes had compartments for various sweetmeats, which included melon seeds, nuts, crystallized fruit and other kinds of small sweet finger food. Please reference similar lacquered boxes in the excellent book TRUETOFORM by Lynn Pan pages 12 and 13. The animal on the top appears to be a cat, but may be a stylized lion.
