Item CA15/891 Kang Table
An exceptional piece, this northern style table has a solid plank top two inches thick with gracefully curved animal legs, similar to cabriole legs, carved from especially thick wood. The legs double tenon into the top. Usually only one tenon would be used. However, with the use of such thick members, using a double tenon makes the join extra strong. A carved, raised line follows the line of the leg from foot to foot---this detail is often referred to as beading. The dark lustrous lacquer is in tact on the legs and base; however, the top is quite distressed from years of use. The end apron sections have been replaced. Large hand made boss head spikes are used in strategic places in the construction. Elm wood Circa 1800, northern China Size: 28" x 14" x 13" high
