Item CX15935/615 Cabinet with Three Drawers, Two Doors SOLD
This cabinet appears to be at least 300 years old from the patina of the wood and the hardware as well as honest wear. Some details are completely unique to this piece. There are remnants of faux painted graining on the burl wood of the main doors. We have never seen this on any other piece of furniture from China. If this piece had been carelessly cleaned, the marks would be gone. The hardware is substantial. Items stored in this cabinet would be quite secure. All drawers could be locked and to access the hidden coffer, you had to remove the drawers. Upon opening the main doors which swing on wood pin hinges, one sees two beautifully colored doors in a smoky orange with a hand forged pin to secure the second set of doors. Behind these doors is a storage cavity. All that remains is original. The top was lovingly hand rubbed to allow the beauty of the wood to show. A most unusual piece with no published examples. Mixed woods with chestnut and pine; 17th/18th century; northern China; Size: 41 x 21 x 35
